I immediately burst in to tears--- they were both happy and scared tears. Of course I was elated at the thought of welcoming a new member of our family but if we are being honest, I have never been so surprised in about anything in my entire life. He immediately took me into the room next door and did my very first ultrasound-- I was already almost 7 weeks! I couldn't believe it. Tears just kept flowing the entire time.
After leaving the doctors office I immediately drove the short distance to Brady's work. I just sat in the parking lot and tried to quickly come up with a cute way to tell him the good news. I called him and asked if he wanted to go to lunch because I was in the neighborhood after my appointment. Little did he know I was literally sitting in the parking lot of his building with the biggest surprise of our lives. We laugh about it now but at the time I was dying... because he told me that he was completely swamped at work and that today wouldn't be the best day to do lunch. I decided to go home and make a nice dinner. I taught SEVEN piano lessons that night before he got home and have to admit, I was a little bit distracted- just counting down the hours to when we could sit down for dinner and I could finally tell Brady the big news.
After my lessons we sat down for a pot roast dinner and I managed to discreetly turn on my iPhone camera to capture the moment. I casually sat down and slid the ultrasound picture across the table. Brady said something like, "oh geez! That scared me!" Then I slid the blood results that said pregnant! Then finally for good measure I slid a positive pregnancy test across the table. He kept saying are you joking? Is this a joke? Then we hugged and cried a little. It was the most surreal moment of our lives!
I will never forget later that night we went over to my parents for something and Brady and I just kept looking at each other. We couldn't wipe the smiles off of our faces. We had a lot going on in our lives at this time as we were both finishing up our last semesters at BYU and planning our dream graduation vacation to Europe. Both were very time consuming. We decided we wanted to celebrate our graduation before we told anyone about being pregnant so we decided to wait.
The next week I went to pilates where I took classes with my best friend Lexi, the instructor, Lexi's aunt Katie and another great friend Ashley. I don't know how but they somehow guessed I was pregnant. Maybe it was my crazy cravings for hi-chew for breakfast or my sudden aversion to protein shakes but they asked and I couldn't keep it in. I was absolutely bursting. It was the biggest secret I had ever had to keep. Because I hadn't told anyone else I made them promise not to say anything. I was a little scared to have told my friends before even my family but it ended up being so nice to have a place to vent and get release.
A few weeks later in the middle of March Brady and I were on a double date with Lexi and Parker playing tennis. Lexi knew that we were expecting but is a great secret keeper and promised not to tell Parker. We decided to tell Parker that night but before we even had a chance Parker kept making jokes that I looked like a mom! He kept telling me that I looked like my mom and that I was just looking like a mom in general. We finally stopped our tennis game and told parker that I was in fact going to be a mom. It was so hilarious. We were glad they were both finally in on our secret because we needed their help to take some pictures. They were so awesome!
These pictures were when I was about 10 weeks along...
We decide that we would tell our families on Easter Sunday- I would be almost 12 weeks by then. We told them that Brady had surprised me for Easter by making me this cute video in celebration of graduation. Little did they know there was a little surprise at the end! :)
So cute Sarah!!!!
