Diaper Size:

Clothes Size:
0-3 months

Health:
Claire is still healthy as can be, we are so grateful! We are still giving her probiotics called Gerber Soothe but i'm not sure we will much longer, they are so expensive! I do think they helped her colic a little bit! Even if just to distract her for a little bit because she seemed to love the taste.

Sleep:
We are definitely improving in the sleep department. Things have gotten a lot better since last month. She is still waking up a couple times a night but it seems like she is a lot more willing to go back to bed lately. Before once she was up it seemed like we had an impossible time getting her back to sleep. Things are slowly starting to improve and that makes me happy! I remember people always used to say, "enjoy your sleep now!" I used to just brush that off because I have always prided myself on being able to run on very little sleep. I've gotten into a good habit of waking up around 6:00am everyday to teach piano lessons so I thought it would be a piece of cake for me. I could have never imagined the exhaustion and frustration that having literally NO restful sleep would have on me. I am SO tired. I have never missed a piano lesson in my life and this month, Claire woke up around 5:45- 6:00 to eat and I fell asleep nursing her and was totally late to my 6:30am lesson! I felt horrible! Sleep deprivation is real!

Diet:
As of the beginning of January I started a new piano studio called The Piano Place. I am now teaching 16 hours of piano lessons. Claire goes to a baby sitter's house almost every day for about 2 hours. Luckily she has taken to a bottle really well. I have tried to be very diligent in pumping before we have to leave but sometimes it is hard to line the timing of it all up. It has been a little bit stressful for me to manage in addition to the great demands of this new business but I am loving it and wouldn't rather it be any other way.

Things I Hope To Always Remember:

The Piano Place:

I have had a dream to open a piano studio for as long as I can remember and this month I finally made it a reality. I am so excited to see what fun opportunities we will have as this business continues to grow! I currently am teaching about 35 lessons a week myself. This keeps me very busy but I feel so lucky to have such good family and in-laws to help me with Claire. Right now I teach every day after school M-Th and she goes to my mom's or Jodies every other day for about 2 hours. The studio is currently operating out of my parents basement apartment so it is really nice when my mom has her to know she is just right upstairs. I always know she is in good hands. They all love her to pieces just like we do.

Claire's Blessing:

Claire wasn't loving trying on her dress the night before her big day.
Of course I didn't get "before" pictures. Here is a picture of the aftermath!

    Grandma Merrilee:

Merrilee Tanner Preece―“Mem” to her family and friends―passed from this life on Monday, January 18, while a life-long friend who was doing the “night shift” held her hand.  She passed from this life just as she had lived, full of grace and poise. She battled progressive dementia for some fourteen years, but managed to remain the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, hiker, biker, and tennis player almost to the end.

Merrilee was born September 10, 1943, to Dr. Richard Stewart Tanner and Anna Dale Storrs Tanner, and was the second of five children.  She grew up on Yale Avenue in Salt Lake City and attended East High School.  There, she was an excellent student, a cheerleader, and a Junior Prom Queen.  She then majored in nursing at the University of Utah where she continued as a cheerleader, served as president of the Chi Omega Sorority, and completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

She and Michael met in high school.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 1964.   Merrilee then provided the financial support for the two of them through Michael’s education by working as a coronary care nurse at LDS Hospital.  They were parents of six children.

Merrilee had many diverse interests.  She was an avid tap dancer and an enthusiastic tennis player.  She served as assistant tennis coach for both the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams at East High School for a few years.  She later taught Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses at West, Highland, and East High Schools for several years.  She served in many church positions including in the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s Organizations.  She and her husband served as president and “mission mother” of the England London South Mission between 2000 and 2003.  She deeply loved her four hundred plus missionaries.

Those of her immediate and extended family will sorely miss her.  They include her children and spouses: Paige Preece, Mardi and Matt Townsend, Katie and Adam Jacobsmeyer, Camryn Preece, Dr. Michael and Jennie Preece, and Dr. Stephen and Jenny Preece.  Her siblings and their spouses include: Deanne and Dr. Howard Francis, Rick and Jan Tanner, Michael and Sandra Tanner, and Rob and Marival Tanner.  She was also deeply involved in the lives of her twenty-one grandchildren and her one great granddaughter.

Merrilee’s family is profoundly grateful to many friends and family who served her, especially in many extraordinary ways during the few final years of her illness.  There are too many to mention, but special acknowledgment is extended to Mafi Mahe and her daughters Silipa and Tiala who became virtually a part of the Preece family.  We’re also especially grateful for the caring staff at the Legacy Village Memory Unit.  Thank you, thank you―to all!

A viewing will be held for all friends and associates on Sunday, January 24, 2016, from 6-8 PM at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City, and again on Monday, January 25 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the Monument Park Stake Center on the corner of Wasatch Drive and 1300 south. Her funeral will follow at noon on the 25th.  Her burial will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Of the many wishes we have for our little Claire Merrilee, the greatest of them all is our hope that one day she will live to become even half the woman whose name she carries. The circle of life is a truly remarkable thing... At this tender time where we have lost a grandma, mother, mentor and friend at the young age of 72... we (just in the nick of time) have gained a new precious addition to our family that will forever carry on her name. ‪#‎tendermercy‬ I will miss her beyond words but am comforted by the thought of the sweet reunions she must be having in heaven- 100% free of the trials she suffered in this world. She was one-of-a-kind woman and I feel so lucky to have many fond memories of her healthy and full of life. ðŸ’™May angels lead you in gram, we love you! ðŸ’™
